Basic Function & Scope of Job

Golden Gate University seeks a dynamic, self-motivated individual with experience in instructional design to join our team.  As part of the eLearning team, the Instructional Designer will work with GGU faculty to design and develop online courses, design and deliver in-person and online training, and advise faculty on pedagogical techniques and the use of technological tools to create and facilitate high quality courses.

The Instructional Designer contributes to this mission by supporting quality online courses and by evaluating solutions that contribute to an excellent educational experience for our students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with faculty to develop effective and engaging online, hybrid or web-enhanced in-person courses and revise existing courses.
  • Train faculty in online course design concepts and applications.
  • Help to troubleshoot and recommend solutions to technical challenges with course software and tools.
  • Develop and deliver webinar and workshop training to faculty.
  • Manage and/or support special projects to improve service to students and faculty.
  • Evaluate new potential platforms and tools to facilitate online teaching and learning
  • Research trends in technology and online education.
  • Build and maintain relationships within a diverse and dynamic university community.
  • Quickly learn and apply new technologies.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, enthusiasm and superior customer service.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

Master’s degree in Instructional Design or Educational Technology or a suitable substitute is required. Two years instructional design experience, preferably in online learning, applying adult learning theories, is required. One year project management experience and one year training or teaching experience, or demonstration of equivalent skills, is preferred. Experience in the higher-education environment is preferred.
